Getting a Marriage License in Jackson Parish

To get a marriage license in Jackson Parish, both parties must appear in person at the Clerk of Court office. You cannot send a representative or apply entirely online. Bring all required documents with you. Missing paperwork means a second trip.

Under Louisiana law at R.S. 9:222, a marriage license issued in any Louisiana parish is valid statewide. You do not need to get your license in the parish where you plan to have the ceremony. Once issued, the license is valid for 30 days. If you do not use it in that time, it expires and you must reapply.

Louisiana law under R.S. 9:241 sets the waiting period before you can use the license. Check with the Jackson Parish Clerk's office for the current waiting period requirement. The ceremony must take place within Louisiana. The license is not valid for ceremonies held in other states.

Each person must bring a valid photo ID, a certified birth certificate, and Social Security number. If either party was previously married, you need proof that the prior marriage ended. That means a certified copy of the divorce decree or, if a spouse died, the death certificate. The clerk's office can tell you exactly what documents apply to your situation.
