Marriage License Process in Webster Parish
To get a marriage license in Webster Parish, both parties apply at the Clerk of Court in Minden. Bring valid photo ID for each person. A driver's license, state ID card, or passport works. You also need certified birth certificates for both applicants. Standard copies are not accepted. The certificate must carry an official seal from the issuing agency.
Louisiana law requires a waiting period after the license is issued before the ceremony can happen. Under R.S. 9:222, a license issued in Webster Parish is valid throughout Louisiana. That means you can hold your ceremony in another parish if you choose. The license stays good for 30 days from the date it is issued. If you do not use it within that time, it expires and you will need to reapply.
If either party was previously married, you must bring proof that the marriage ended before you can get a new license. A certified divorce decree or the death certificate of a former spouse satisfies this requirement under R.S. 9:241. Come prepared with this documentation if it applies to you.
You will also need your Social Security number and the names and birthplaces of both parents, including the mother's maiden name for each applicant. If you have questions, email webstermarriage@yahoo.com before your visit to confirm what you need to bring.
Note: Applicants who are 16 or 17 years old must have parental consent. No one under 16 may obtain a marriage license in Louisiana.
