Getting a Marriage License Near St. George

St. George residents follow the same process as all East Baton Rouge Parish applicants. Both parties must appear at one of the EBR Clerk locations together. You can start the process online at clerkconnect.com/marriageapp/ebr before your visit. Completing the online application ahead of time can save time at the counter.

Louisiana requires a 24-hour waiting period from the time the license is issued until the ceremony. The license is valid for 30 days. It can be used for a ceremony anywhere in Louisiana. You do not need to be an East Baton Rouge Parish or St. George resident to apply. Applicants from any Louisiana parish or from outside the state are welcome at this office.

The clerk's office notes that access to records is free. You pay only for the license itself and for any certified copies you request later. The marriage license fee and copy fees are set at the state level for all Louisiana parishes. Check ebrclerk.com for the most current fee amounts before your visit.

Documents Needed for a Marriage License in St. George

Both parties must bring valid photo identification. A driver's license, state-issued ID, or passport is accepted. Each person needs a certified birth certificate. Uncertified copies will not work. You will also need Social Security numbers for both applicants and information about both parents, including birthplaces and the mother's maiden name.

If either party was previously married, bring proof the marriage ended. A certified divorce decree or a death certificate for a former spouse is required. Louisiana will not issue a new license without this documentation. This rule applies no matter where the prior marriage took place.
