You still need to appear in person at one of the offices to finalize the application and pay the fee. Metairie Marriage License Fees and Rules

The fee for a marriage license in Jefferson Parish is $27.50. Certified copies of the marriage record cost $10.00 each. If you need to waive the 24-hour waiting period, that waiver costs $4.00 per person. Louisiana requires that the waiting period begin when the license is issued, so you cannot get married on the same day you apply unless a judge approves a waiver.

The license is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued. It can be used for a ceremony anywhere in Louisiana. You do not need to live in Jefferson Parish to apply here. Both parties must bring valid photo identification. A driver's license, state-issued ID, or passport is acceptable. Each person also needs a certified birth certificate. The clerk will not accept uncertified copies. You will also need your Social Security numbers and basic background information for both parents including the mother's maiden name.

If either party has been married before, bring proof that the prior marriage ended. A certified copy of the divorce decree or a death certificate is required. Louisiana law is firm on this.
