St. Tammany Parish Quick Facts
St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court
The St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court is Jessica Jenkins Brewster. Her office has two locations: the main Justice Center in Covington and the Slidell Annex on the east side of the parish. Both offices handle marriage license applications and related marriage records. Having two locations is a real convenience in a parish that stretches from the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain well into the piney hills.
The Covington office is at 701 N Columbia Street, Covington, LA 70433. The main phone number is (985) 809-8700. For the marriage license department specifically, you can call (985) 809-8745. This is where the Personal Documents Department operates on the ground floor of the Justice Center. Marriage licenses are handled there, not at a separate window upstairs.
The Slidell Annex is at 520 Old Spanish Trail, Slidell, LA 70458. Call (985) 643-6969 for that location. Note that the Slidell office closes from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. every day for lunch. If you go during that window, you will find the doors closed. Plan around that break time. Both offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The St. Tammany Parish Clerk of Court website has full details on both locations and the services offered at each.
The official St. Tammany Parish Clerk website above has current information on office locations, hours, departments, and online services for marriage records.

Getting a Marriage License in St. Tammany Parish
Both parties must appear in person to apply for a St. Tammany Parish marriage license. You can go to either the Covington office or the Slidell Annex, whichever is more convenient. Both offices accept applications. You cannot apply by mail. Both people must be there at the same time with all required documents.
Under Louisiana law at R.S. 9:222, a marriage license issued anywhere in Louisiana is valid statewide, regardless of where you live or where the ceremony will take place, as long as the ceremony is performed in Louisiana. You do not have to be a St. Tammany Parish resident to get your license here.
Louisiana requires a 24-hour waiting period between when the license is issued and when the ceremony can take place, as provided under R.S. 9:241. So if you get your license on a Tuesday afternoon, the earliest you can have the ceremony is Wednesday afternoon. The license is valid for 30 days from issuance. After 30 days it expires.
Starting January 1, 2026, all credit card transactions on the Land Records site carry a 2.75% processing fee. Budget for that if you plan to pay by card. The clerk's office should be able to tell you the current fee when you call ahead.
One important note for some applicants: birth certificates for parties born before 1983 often require electronic updating by Louisiana Vital Records before the license can be issued. This can add time to the process if it applies to you. Contact Louisiana Vital Records in advance if you were born before 1983 and want to avoid delays on the day you apply.
The Slidell Annex page above from the St. Tammany Parish Clerk website has the current address, phone numbers, and hours for the east side office that also handles marriage license applications.
Note: The Slidell Annex closes for lunch from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily, so plan your visit outside that window.
Documents for St. Tammany Parish Marriage License Applications
Come prepared. Missing a document will send you home without a license. Both applicants need to bring the following items to the Personal Documents Department at whichever office you choose.
Each person must present a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or state ID card. You also need a certified copy of your birth certificate. A photocopy or hospital-issued copy is not enough. It must be a certified official copy from the state where you were born. If you were born in Louisiana before 1983, contact Louisiana Vital Records first to have your record updated electronically before you visit the clerk.
Both parties need their Social Security numbers. The application asks for both parents' full names, birthplaces, and the mother's maiden name for each applicant. If either person was married before, bring a certified copy of the final divorce decree or the death certificate of a former spouse. Under Louisiana law, this documentation is required before a new license can be issued. Do not come without it.
The Personal Documents Department page above explains the full range of vital record services available at the St. Tammany Parish Clerk's office, including marriage license applications.
Search St. Tammany Parish Marriage Records Online
St. Tammany Parish marriage records can be searched online through eClerksLA, the statewide records portal operated by Louisiana clerks of court. The portal is free and available any time. You can search by name, date range, or record type. Marriage license records from St. Tammany Parish appear in the system.
The LCRAA portal is another option for online searches. It gives statewide access to court records including marriage filings from parish clerks. Both portals are good for finding record information quickly without making a trip to Covington or Slidell.
For certified copies with legal weight, you need to contact the clerk directly. Online portals show record information but cannot issue official copies. Call the main Covington office at (985) 809-8700 or the marriage department directly at (985) 809-8745 to request certified copies.
The eClerksLA portal above is the main statewide system for searching Louisiana marriage records, including those filed in St. Tammany Parish.
Louisiana Marriage Record Resources
State-level agencies provide additional options for finding marriage records when the parish clerk cannot help or when you need older historical documents.
The Louisiana State Archives holds historical marriage and vital records from parishes across the state. If you are researching a St. Tammany Parish marriage from many decades ago, the archives may have records that are not available through the online portals. Their collection includes microfilmed documents and some digitized records going back to the 1800s in certain parishes.
The Louisiana Department of Health issues certified copies of marriage certificates for events recorded after 1946. The health department certificate is shorter than the full court record. It confirms the marriage took place but does not have all the application details that the Clerk of Court record contains. Both are official documents. The right one to request depends on what you need it for.
Note: For pre-1983 birth certificates used in marriage license applications, contact Louisiana Vital Records before your appointment at the St. Tammany Parish Clerk to avoid delays.
